BLUE BLASTS HOWARD RED
Apparently believing that if we can't beat their best we don't deserve to win, out of the goodness of his heart Coach Larry Bair agreed to play Howard Red at Howard today so that one of their best players could be on hand for the game. That Howard Red player was there, but Blue did not seem to care as they won convincingly, 14 - 10 over Howard Red. After giving up three runs to Red in the bottom of the first, Blue came back to score four in the top of the second, and never trailed after that. Nine Blue hitters had two or more hits with Jim Pugh leading the way posting a 4 for 5 day. As a point of information, it seems that Ray showed up at Blue's home field sporting a white jersey. This prompted Coach Bair to move Frank from outfield to short field where he played admirably. In that outfield which Frank vacated, all four fielders proceeded to make great catches and fine throws, with Dave really putting a damper on Red's enthusiasm when he came from deep in right-center on a dead run to make a shoe string catch a few feet behind second base. Later Neal made a perfect throw to Jim who relayed another perfect throw to John to nail a Red runner at the plate. Tom didn't need a relay from any infielder when he nailed a base runner headed for third. (Hit him right in the back.) (Incidentally, Ray did manage to find the park at Cedar Lane just before game time and even had his blue jersey.)
