The Sun Will Come Out

Tomorrow!
At a loss to explain today's loss to Howard County I consulted
with Punjab. Take heart fellow Blues as the true cause for our
collapse today has been discovered. Our defeat did not come from
platitudinus play but from what was discovered in Howard's equipment
bag.

Gray Highlight from Monday's Games

Gray downed Dundalk on Monday by scores of 14-10 and 13-0. The Baltimore Senior Softball League website supplies the following recap of Gray's games:
Ray Owings the manager of the Gray team in 2009 who had the major stroke
nine months ago was at the game. Ray was a pinch hitter in the
7th inning. Although he did not get a hit, he received a standing ovation
from both teams and from about 3 dozen spectators.
Gray reports it was the highlight of the games for all of us.

Resilience

The tenacity of Blue's flexile roster garnered a victory today using the 14th infield combination of the season. If injuries continue to mount, I'll have to brush up on math permutations to determine our finite number. Because of two vacationers, one carney, A FIBber, and Oscar sporting the mirror-image injury as Tinker, we started thin. When longball Al pulled a hamstring he vacated 2B prompting Larry to risk his personal health and well-being by inserting ole Tinker at 3B and the musical chair infield rotated again. (AND, YES Hank, you now know that I can field and throw runners out with my eyes closed!) A big thank you to "Flo", my corset fitter, for my ribs remained intact. It is difficult to find the words to describe my joy in being reunited on the field with you guys. After a five week absence, I find I'll have to start pumping iron to keep up with my Herculean teammates. Too many homers and triples to mention for fear of over-looking anyone but allow it to be stated we all contributed. Defensively, Jr. played admirably on his ankle, Dave made a nice diving catch and Neal nailed a runner at 2B and probably feels bad (even being an attorney) about shagging their first baseman's foul fly. Gold Glove Larry dazzled them again and SS, Jimbo, did get to the second pop-fly. Ray continues to tolerate the changing faces to his left and right from short-field. Mike displayed his versatility in taking over yet another position, 2B. Frank was at home again in the friendly confines of his outfield position. And Harry just continues to get hits. In closing, I applaud our "Easy Rider" for fighting off his recidivist tendency by not taking the MD State Trooper through all the backyards today enroute to lunch!

Silver Doubleheader

Scant info being reported once again. Blue fell (over-feet, blades of grass and even imaginary items) to Silver in game one 10-8. The ship apparently righted itself for a victory in game two with a score of 13-7. It was mentioned that O's
bat has come alive sending shots over the outfielders heads.
Congratulations to Carroll's over 65 tournament team which posted a 2-1 record falling in the Championship game to Montgomery All-Stars after defeating Delaware and Bowie Silver.

New Winning Streak

All BSSL games were rained out except Blue's doubleheader sweep of Glen Burnie on Wednesday. The thin Blue lineup prevailed using their fourth shortstop of the season and deploying multiple designated runners. The few morsels of information available are that Al Stroud was hot as a firecracker and Neal powered his first home run. Well, young macho men, here's the scoop: if we win out and Harford loses their remaining games, we can finish in first place. The HEAT is on.

Monday's Doubleheader

Well, ole Tinker's grapevine appears to have dried up as I have received no updates on today's games. Please see the side bar for game scores and BSSL link for what appears to be a great come-from-behind Gray game today.

Good 2nd Half Start

Blue registered their first doubleheader sweep of the season today over Glen Burnie, 14-12 and 18-10. Game one started by spotting Glen Burnie two first inning runs. In retort, Al lead off for Blue with a mammoth triple to be followed by a barrage of hits capping a 5 run inning. In game one, Jr & Frank went 3-3 and John was a perfect 2-2. Larry was credited with the win.
Game two saw Frank, Jim (including 2 triples) and John all going 3-3 while Pete, Jr and Hank added 2 hits apiece and, yes, Harry was perfect at the plate once again. Frank also had his first multiple homerun day of this season. Not to be overlooked, the defense executed a double play and both Jr and Tom launched perfect throws to cut down would be runs at the plate. As impressive as our outfielders were, the defensive gem of the day came from Mike Price. Mike leaped to spear a scorcher to get the first out of the last inning absolutely killing whatever spirit Glen Burnie had remaining.
The Thin Blue Lineup prevailed while growing thinner with Oscar going down in the 4th inning of game two. Perseverance is the current watchword as we wait for things to improve while continuing to be Young Macho Men (albeit, in seasoned bodies). There are going to be a lot of eyes on us as we move farther along this year.

Gameday Eve

Remember to bring lots of fluids, terry towel and sun screen.
It's rumored that a sports reporter will be in attendance to
report on "The Thin Blue Line(up)". Time to gain ground on
the field. Go get 'em Blue!

Catonsville

We're on a winning streak with our 16-3 shellacking of Catonsville Wednesday.
As my on the scene reports are scant, all I have to offer is that most Blues
had multiple hits with John & Jr. leading the way with 3 apiece. Let's bring
home the gold during our next 8 games against Silver and Glen Burnie.
